A Glimpse into the Abyss: The Premise and Promise

"Rage of Stars" dumps the viewer into a near-future version of the world on the edge of chaos via the perspective of a member of an elite special forces unit. With an easy to follow and engaging plot, a special forces member is confronted with a new type of threat franchise: the abstract, and potentially humanity’s last, threat of the end of civilization. The plot is a creative take on the melding of military action versus science fiction plots that deal with larger and more philosophical speculation. Taking the bold concept, director Łukasz Róg smartly compresses the overall runtime of the film to 1 hour and 46 minutes to include a tight and concise film with propulsive action. Thriller movies that run longer do not typically engage the audience as well with plot fat, so a movie that defies convention and runs substantially shorter is a refreshing change.

The core concept involves the protagonist having a burden that would create a strong psychological drama versus an action film. The protagonist is faced with having to combat the external threats that challenge special forces members while also dealing with skepticism and supporting the implications of her sanity. The genres of Action, Science Fiction, and Thriller are used to create a movie that engages the audience to sit on the edge of their seats and ponder if the protagonist’s visions are a dire warning or an indication that she is losing her sanity."

Heart-Pounding Momentum and Existential Dread

"Rage of Stars" sets the pace early. Action scenes in this movie mean something and progress the plot. The movie manages to keep a high level of action and danger interspersed with close, intense fight scenes and large, wide battle scenes. The movie does a great job building the adrenaline and the tension leading up to bigger, more important scenes. This movie asks big questions like “What is mankind’s destiny?” and “Are we fated to see the end?”. With that in mind, this movie better be able to deliver the larger than life, Hollywood style action people expect.

This movie does an amazing job building the dreadful atmosphere with a mix of Sci-fi and action. The establishing shots help stretch the beginning of the film, and they give you a lot of information about the world where the fragment of mankind is plagued with nothing. The action scenes are fighting one to one or group vs. group, all set to an amazing cinematic score to build the emotional weight of this haunted vision centered protagonist. The music score is the foundation of the movie, and the atmosphere and tension builds with each note. Andrea Tivadar carries the movie as she makes the burden of this high stakes vision and the desperate need to avert the apocalyptic scenario the protagonist carries, her burden, and builds the insurmountable emotion and the catharsis of theology and science intersection. This movie builds action and keeps you on the edge. It's a great thought-provoking combination and a solid movie. Check it out!

Cracks in the Cosmic Mirror: Where the Stars Falter

"Rage of Stars" has an interesting plot and a great lead actor, but has its problems too. Due to the film's choice for a fast-paced edit, some character development is lacking for secondary characters. For the most part, our protagonist has great development, but for key secondary characters, the film chooses to have them stay as underdeveloped plot devices. Their undeveloped nature lessens the impact of the film's emotional crux, and it could have been easily avoided by spending more time developing the relationships.

Action sequences are also sometimes very cliché. As a film reliant on the logic of plot twists and tropes, there are plenty of predictable moments. This also pulls audiences out of the immersion, as they begin to see the film for the tropes it is. For such a large scale film, there are visuals that feel small, and due to the nature of the narrative, there are times where the effects and visuals should be on a grander scale to match the film. The script has great potential, but the biggest drawback for most people is that it could have been even better.

The Call to Arms: Is It Your Kind of End?

“Rage of Stars” falls short in many regards, but balances imperfection with some truly excellent moments. The film excels in the way it executes an interesting premise with terrific production, all while providing us with a competent lead actress. Although some plot points are predictable and the story lacks character development, the film's pacing, atmosphere, and the emotional burden the protagonist carries while knowing she will cause the end of the world makes up for these flaws. “Rage of Stars” is a film that will make you wonder what the point of fighting for a world that will end is for, while still offering compelling action. For those who enjoy spy thrillers placed in the future mixed with quick, to-the-point sci-fi storytelling, “Rage of Stars” is a great film to watch for free on CocoFlix. “Rage of Stars” sustains adrenaline and contemplation, even with its minor issues, and that makes it a fun film to watch.
