Spider-Noir (2026) Review – Nicolas Cage's Dark Marvel Series

Genres: Action, Adventure, Crime

Cast: Nicolas Cage, Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li

Nicolas Cage as a washed-up, trench-coated Spider-Man in Depression-era New York: on paper it sounds like a fever dream, and that is precisely the pitch of Spider-Noir. Eight years after Cage first voiced the character in Into the Spider-Verse, he finally plays him in the flesh — and the result is currently the most talked-about new series of the season, holding a strong 8.0 audience rating.

What Is Spider-Noir About?

Ben Reilly is a seasoned, down-on-his-luck private investigator working 1930s New York — a man with a past life he would rather forget. When a deeply personal tragedy drags that past back into the light, the aging gumshoe is forced to reckon with who he used to be: the city's one and only masked hero.

The series plays its superhero elements like a film noir: rain-slicked streets, crooked cops, femme fatales, and a hero whose biggest enemy is his own history. You do not need to know a single thing about Marvel continuity to follow it — this is a self-contained detective story that happens to have a spider in it.

What Makes It Worth Watching?

  • Cage, fully unleashed. This is the role Cage fans have been waiting for — world-weary deadpan one moment, full Cage-ian mania the next. The series knows exactly what it has and lets him cook.
  • A noir that commits. The 1930s production design is gorgeous, and the show treats its period setting as substance, not wallpaper — the Depression, the rackets, the desperation all drive the plot.
  • A superhero show for people tired of superhero shows. By stripping the genre down to one tired man in one corrupt city, Spider-Noir feels closer to classic detective fiction than to any cinematic universe.
  • Strong support. Lamorne Morris brings welcome levity, while Li Jun Li's performance gives the noir its requisite mystery.

Who Should Watch It?

Noir lovers, Cage devotees, and anyone burned out on multiverse-scale superhero storytelling — this is the palate cleanser. It is also a great entry point for viewers who never followed Marvel: TV-14, character-driven, and entirely standalone.

If you want wall-to-wall web-slinging action, temper expectations: this is a slow-burn crime drama first and a superhero show second. The mask comes off far more often than it goes on.

Final Verdict

Spider-Noir is the boldest swing a Marvel property has taken on television — a moody, stylish detective story elevated by a lead performance only Nicolas Cage could give. It will not be for everyone, but for the right viewer it is the best new series of 2026. Binge it on CocoFlix and watch with the lights off.
